Dyslexic Winterfest

I sometimes chew on cups, it helps me pay attention, when my mom is reading me something. My Mom taped this picture on my alarm clock. I didn’t know what AM & PM was.

I though AM stood for “At Morning”. My Mom said I was right.

I think differently than some people, I figured if I know what AM stands for, I don’t need to know what PM stands for, because it must mean afternoon.

I like the picture she made for me.

Going to our First Dyslexia Even! I am excited, I am going to make sure I meet Ben Foss!

This is the Book Ben wrote.

He is Dyslexic like me. I think everybody should read or listen to this book.

This will teach people about dyslexic people.

Guess What?

I met Ben Foss!! He is such a nice man.

I talked to him alot and gave him my business cards

and told him I would like to be a Speaker about Dyslexia

to share my stories with other little kids and parents and teachers. I want to help make other kids life easier. I know how hard it is when your teacher dosn’t understand you. School can be a scary place for dyslexic kids.

I am scared to go to school tomorrow, because I don’t want to be tested. I am scared because I don’t know what to expect in my class everyday. Last week was a spelling bee, now I don’t know what could be next.

Dyslexic kids need to feel safe, really all kids need to feel safe.

I told Ben about my fears and showed him all my bad school work that is all marked up. He flet bad for me.

He told me to self advocate which means speak up for myself. I told him that I did, but it didn’t work with my teacher. So he told me to show her what ever it is that is not something for me and say, ” This does NOT work for ME!”

He told me to keep saying it to all my teachers and never give up. He knows how I feel.

Most peope don’t know anything about dyslexia.

It is hard for people to understand. We don’t look like we have something. We just need people to listen to us and understand.

There are things tha even My mom is still learning everyday.

Like why I ask so many questions. It because that is the best way I learn.

My Mom also never knew that I didnt know what AM & PM was. When she found out she drew me a picture & taped it to my alarm clock..

These are My three Strength Bands!

Ben Foss gets kids with dyslexia!

He made us focus on our strengths!

I have the same strengths as Ben did.

We have the same colored bracelets.

My TOP strengths are: Narrative – because I like to tell stories.

Verbal – because I like to talk to people.

Social – because I make friends easily and I am friendly.

I have many other strengths like Athletic, Visual and others.

Ben says to focus on Your strengths always.

He really liked me, I could tell.

I am so glad we went.

We met other nice people there like Matt and I forget the other guys name from Eye to Eye. They help little kids understand their dyslexia because they all have it.

Everyone was soo nice to us. It is nice to be around people who are like you.

  1. It sounds like it was a good learning experience for you and your family.
we all do need to learn as much as we can about this Dyslexia, including me.
But I cheat, because your mom reads the books and gives me all the important information out of them. lol

  2. I am very glad that you found someone who has gone through what you are experiencing now and understands exactly how you feel. Focusing on your strenghts and speaking up for yourself sounds like wonderful advice.
